Glamour Gowns 2011 was fantastic this year. The Glamour Gowns Committee worked all day on Saturday to help dress over 400 foster girls in LA County for their prom or special day. The girls took home a dress, new shoes from Chinese Laundry, jewelry, had their dresses altered by seamstresses from the local Costumer Union and a goody bag full of makeup and personal care products.
Thanks to our newest committee member, Lauren Tobin, of Panther PR, we had some amazing coverage of this "little" event that is now had it's 10th Anniversary. We were on the Channel 7 news live, KTLA Channel 5 did a segment, LA Times Fashion and Telemundo.
We've grown from the basement of a church and some used, cast-off dresses to the Los Angeles Convention Center and close to 400 girls in one day. Dresses have been donated by Masquerade (a local prom dress manufacturer), Windsor, David's Bridal and we still collect donations from the public if they are newer and in good condition. Neutrogena, Smashbox, NYX cosmetics, Avon/Mark, Garnier and others donated the products for the stuffed full goody bags that every girl left with. And for the girls who would prefer a tuxedo instead? Men's Wearhouse came through with donations of a free tux rental.
If you're interested in volunteering next year - just give me a jingle.
