Trash report: Southern California's effort to clean up the confusion

Great LA Times article by Mary McVean about trash and recycling in LA.   Trying to help clear up the confusion about what you can and can't recycle, compost, trash etc.  For the greenies, the wanna-be greenies, and all the rest.

The article by Susan Carpenter about her attempt to cut down on her trash production and efforts to learn what can be recycled is excellent too.  We cut our trash production by half or more just be installing a compost bin.  Although I must admit I didn't know that those disposable plates, forks, spoons etc that say they are compostable don't break down in a home compost bin.

Thanks LA Times for helping get the information out to us!

Modern Chicks

Chickens that is.  I have this notion of keeping chickens so I can have fresh eggs in the morning.  Of course I'm pretty sure the coyotes around here would more likely have fresh chickens for dinner, but how cool are these modern chicken coops?!  I could so see one of these in my yard.

Food Truck Bonanza!

It's a food truck extravaganza tomorrow - Thursday the 26th - here at the Fireman's Credit Union in Los Angeles at 815 Colorado Blvd just outside of Pasadena.  They have a food truck at their site everyday, but tomorrow they are holding their "Food Truck Extravaganza and Sidewalk Sale" to benefit the Fire Family Foundation.  I met Allison who is in charge of organizing the food trucks and her enthusiasm was catching.  I sampled the turkey sandwich from Meet N' Potatoes today and it was quite tasty.  The sauce for the fries today was truffle aioli. Um, yum!  The Meet N' Potatoes Truck is there twice a month.  Cupcakes a Go Go was there today too.  And, yes, we sampled one of those.  The coconut was delicious.

You can give your email address to the receptionist and Allison will kindly add you to their email blast so you will be in the know about what trucks will be there what days.  The Kogi truck has been known to make an appearance so it's good to be in the know.

If you're in the area Thursday and can make it, stop by and have a tasty lunch and help support your local Firefighters. If you've been following my blog you know how I feel about my local Firefighters.

The trucks that will be there:  Grill Em All, The Comfort Truck, Mandoline Grill, Shaved Ice.  From 11-3.  I heard from a customer in line today that Grill Em All is the best.  That's what he said.

All I'm sayin' is that I can walk over from my house.  Jealous?!

Combo Meal: Four Cafe & Colorado Wine Company

The other night we decided to head to Four Cafe with an out of town guest to have a casual, healthy dinner.  Great idea.  Then, realizing we'd forgotten to bring a bottle of wine from home, we stopped at the nearby Colorado Wine Company to pick one up.  Here's where a very good idea becomes a great one.

After picking out a wine, described as "gorgeous" by the equally gorgeous and knowledgeable gal at Colorado Wine Co, she said we could order our food from Four Cafe and stay there to eat.  Genius!

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the atmosphere at Four Cafe, as much as the food, but to combine eating deliciousness in the company of the heady scent of the wine bar.  Perfection for our evening.

Oh, and another tip from our helpful gal at the wine company - order a dessert from Four - Michelle is an "artist".  And, yes, our desserts were scrumptious!

We didn't have soup, but couldn't pass up this delicious photo!

See you on Colorado Blvd in Eagle Rock for a great glass of wine and a delightful meal.

Andy Warhol at the Huntington Library & Gardens - New Works of Art that is!

The Huntington's new works by Andy Warhol go on view tomorrow, January 12th.

Now's your chance not only to see the gorgeous grounds of the Huntington Library and Gardens, but to see Warhol's, "Small crushed Campbell's soup can (Beef Soup)" and the 1964 "Brillo Box".

While you're there don't forget to see the newer Chinese garden and, my personal favorite, the Desert garden.

Pop Art Comes to The Huntington

Warhol works are received from the estate of Robert Shapazian

A gift of important works by Andy Warhol, the artist synonymous with the Pop Art movement, has come to The Huntington from the estate of Robert Shapazian, who was the director of Lapis Press, founded by the artist Sam Francis, and was founding director of the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills. One of the pieces is Small Crushed Campbell’s Soup Can (Beef Noodle), a painting made in 1962 as a unique, early variant of the famous series. Another is Brillo Box, constructed in 1964 at the time of the artist’s first sculpture exhibition. Rounding out the gift is a group of nine unlicensed copies of Brillo Box commissioned in 1990 by art collector and international museum director Pontus Hultén.

Leonard Cohen. Vegas. Suite at the Trump. Dinner at Il Mulino. Luckiest Gals on Earth.

The title says it all.  Best Show Ever.  Four hours plus of his royal amazing rock godness plus his amazing musicians and singers.  A show I will never forget and am honored to have experienced.

We shopped, we ate, we were in awe of Leonard Cohen, we stayed in our suite at the Trump (provided by a kind friend who works for them), all in less than 24 hours.  One might even say we are goddesses, not to mention lucky.
